“The Simpsons” is a show that has been running for about 30 years and has 700+ episodes. It is the longest-running American animated series, with the first episode airing on December 17, 1989. Apart from serving modern comedy, the show delivered many moments that have manifested themselves in real life on numerous occasions. Some of the things that happened on the show as a form of sarcasm and entertainment did, in fact, become reality. Was everything just a coincidence?

Today, we’ll talk about some of the show’s throwaway jokes that turned out to be true.

  1. The Donald Trump’s presidency: I know it is hard to believe but Simpsons predicted Donald’s presidency 22 years ago back in the year 2000 in the season 11 episode “Bart to the future”. They predicted that the billionaire businessman would become the president. In the scene Lisa was seen sitting in an oval office and said, “We’ve inherited quite a budget crunch from President Trump,” which was a reference to trump running as a reform party candidate.

2) 2016 Nobel Prize Winner: In an episode aired in the year 2010, it was shown that Bengt R. Holmstrom won the noble price in economics, and it actually happened. In the year 2016 Holmstrom and Oliver Hart were announced as joint winners of the said prize.

3) Facetime: Predicted back in 1995, in the show Lisa was seen talking to marge using the phones video chat feature which was called the picture phone. It surely was ahead of its time but finally came true in the year 2010.

4) Smart watches: The episode 19 “Lisa’s wedding” in season 6 had many future technology jokes, like the use of smartwatch. Predicted in the year 1995, Lisa’s fiancé was seen making a phone call using his highly fashionable smartwatch. The introduction of the idea of smartwatches was ahead of its time, however it finally came into existence in the year 2013.

5) Faulty Voting Machine: There were a lot of references in the show related to politics like in an episode aired in the year 2008, Homer Simpson went to the voting booth to cast his vote to Barack Obama, but his vote went to the McCain instead. This incident of faulty voting actually happened during the 2012 elections where the votes cast for Barack Obama went to Mitt Romney.

6) FIFA’s corruption scandal: In an episode of the Simpsons “You Don’t Have to Live Like a Referee,” the recent FIFA scandal was predicted. In the scene Homer Simpson is approached by a FIFA official who is getting arrested for corruption and so Homer Simpson is seen as a man that will now be needed to take care of this situation.

7) Richard Branson journey to space: The Simpsons seemingly predicted the British billionaire’s trip to space.
